Report

The 94's made their long awaited return to the 11a side arena tonight in this end of season challenge match against the coaches & parents. After a two year hiatus it was good to see the boys back in action and whilst I can't report on a glorious victory I can bring you news of an honourable draw.

As the teams lined up it became clear that we were in for an interesting evening as three of the 94's coaches, Kenny, Gus & Derek, were in direct opposition to their sons.

The first half action was mainly confined to the midfield but any pressure that was being exerted on the 94's was expertly mopped up by the defence which was superbly marshalled by man of the match Ben Flanagan. The 94's did have their moments in front of the Coaches goal and came close on a number of occasions however the nearest thing to a goal in the first half came from a 20 yard free kick for the coaches which was superbly touched round the post by Niall MacTaggart.

H.T. 0-0

The second half kicked off with Niall MacTaggart still in goals for the 94's but appearing to have put on about six stone in weight during the half time break : -) Ok it was me ! and Niall jnr was now up front with Stewart Paterson. This switch seemed to be having a positive effect as chances were now being created more frequently however the 94's were finding the coaches second half keeper , Ex Partick Thistle centre half Ian Spittal, difficult to get by. Difficult but not impossible as after receiving an incisive pass from Niall, Craig McKerrow was to bury the ball into the back of the net to give the 94's a deserved lead. Unfortunately the lead was to be short lived as from a poorly defended corner kick coach Neil McFadden was to prod home a lose ball from inside the six yard box.

With time running out both keepers were brought into action to make vital saves to keep the scores level. The coaches had a penalty appeal turned down in the closing minutes and the 94's had the ball in the net courtesy of Niall jnr but referee David White brought play back for a hand ball incident during the build up.

All in all a great nights entertainment and a result that keeps everyone's pride intact!

F.T 1-1

M.O.M. - Ben Flanagan ~ superb throughout

Summary : A good all round performance by all 94's including impressive displays from the two young lads guesting. A solid display from the defence especially in the first half and had it not been for a rather wasteful night in front of goal then this is a game we should have won...............................maybe next year !!!!!!
